If you play your cards right, explosives can assist with clearing out enemies quickly and efficiently. One poorly place explosive can kill you or weaken you to a position where you won't last much longer afterwards. However at the same time, explosives can be your biggest enemy if you don't take care of how you use them. Explosives also come in handy when it takes out generals and kingpins fast.
Not much to explain here, it helps when you are heavily outnumbered and want to take out a big group with a rocket or a grenade. The higher the level, the bigger the explosion.
